Our History
Blue Mountain Children's Home was founded in 1965 by the late Rev. J. L. Pipkin, former pastor of the Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. For years Bro. Pipkin dreamed of building a home where abused and neglected children could live in a loving, caring atmosphere. But it was a friend and fellow minister, the Rev. Max Bingham who inspired him to build the home he had only dreamed of. No building could be found, but a tract of land on Mississippi Highway 15 was for sale. Both ministers presented their idea to the annual national conference of the Assembly of the Lord Jesus Christ. The organization did not appropriate money for the project but hundreds of individual churches began sending in contributions. For months Bro. Pipkin, along with several other ministers traveled the country raising the funds necessary to purchase the land and build the sprawling red brick building which has the capacity to house 40 children. Four Months after the home opened in February, 1966, the first child arrived at the home. He had been abandoned by his mother in a New York shopping center. The administrators and house parents at the time, the late Rev. and Sis. Floyd Ainsworth, welcomed the child with open arms. Since that time there have been several administrators, several house parents, and over 200 children, but one thing remains the same; "This is a home where children are loved", Bro. Pipkin once said, "It's not an orphan's home and it's not an institution. It is a home with a home atmosphere. That's what we've always tried to make it." It has been by faith, by offerings from individuals, businesses, and churches of all denominations that the doors have remained open.
